Max,

The task, on my 84 Westy, withthe tank in its normal, fitted, position, is a 1/2 hour job for a person with thin enough forearms, as are mine. Unless you are an Arnold S.-type, the following should work.

The access I have used is from the undersides of the wheel wells. Loosen the front wheel lugs, before jack-standing the van. You want the hubs/wheels to hang down. Remove the wheels to accommodate access, if your corpus is large, and, turn the wheels in and out according to the side of the van you are working on, so you can access the top of the tank.

Use a small bit of lubricant, on the "Y" device which connects into the evaporation tanks, if that is what you describe as the "barb." BUT, be careful not to push the grommet into the tank. I first fitted the "Y" into the grommet and then finessed the lubricated, coupled, unit into the hole in the top of the tank, after making SURE that the top of the tank was clean.
