You do need to cut the door, about an inch. I did it to mine and just wrapped the excess carpet under the door. Seeing as you have to weld the swivel seat base in, I figured I wasn't going to miss the extra inch any time soon. The more annoying pain IMO is that the battery bracket bolt is really hard to get at after you've put the swivel base in - at least it is on my 90 GL, where the bolt protrudes up from the compartment floor just in front of the battery well. I think there must be a different sort of battery hold down when you have the swivel base, but haven't investigated it yet.
