...and now i'm ending it.

okay, this is getting ridiculous.

i've been on this list for about a year, often contributing privately, almost never contributing (or asking questions) publicly. as so many other people have pointed out, people on the list hold an amazing volume of knowledge about vanagons, other VWs, and vehicles in general. and they feel free to share that knowledge, whether it's about VWs, Audis, Porsches, or even those guys with the Econoline and the Suburban.

so, in my opinion, my short, to-the-point email asking for advice about another type of VW should be acceptable. if nothing else it's at least as acceptable as email about campgrounds, rest area murders (two recent threads), not to mention the old repetitive threads that we've seen over and over again (discussions about vendors, tires, bike racks, guns in vanagons, whatever).

i clearly stated the subject of the email. if you aren't interested, delete it. it's not that hard.

it's interesting that i got about 15 private and a couple public responses from people about the Thing. in contrast, there's been a flood of public posts ranting about whether the email is off-topic. is that really how you feel like spending your energy? the complaints have created much more clutter than the original question and responses.

okay. now i'm done. i'm staying on the list, but i have a much lower opinion of some of you than i did before.

ps- thanks for everybody that offered information. it was a good supplement to the research that i had already done.
