Subject: broken alternator bracket? What's the real cause?
Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII

Folks, i have been mildly following this broken alternator bracket thread and have a few questions and comments. Alternator brackets just don't break. Ok, some do, but if your breaks, and then breaks again and again, something is wrong. If the alternator is not balanced well, or looses balance then it could be stressing the bracket when it spins- but that may also cause other things on that belt so cry out in pain. So what about a mis-aligned pulley/alternator. Say it is 1/8" out of the plane of the belt-path, or maybe angled a bit? What I am trying to get at is that alternator brackets just should break one after another. There is something wrong somewhere else. Ok, now back to spam -Matthew
