'85 Vanagon - basic stuff to have? There are all sorts of responses you 'll receive if this thread spreads. The most important thing to carry in the van, I think (and what do I know), is extra clothes, food, and emergency equipment; throw in a prepaid phone card. Not to tarnish your feeling for your fine van, but they do sometimes, quite unexpectantly, break down. I keep ALL of my tools in the back compartment, plus two road flares, jumpercables, pre-greasy clothes, a tarp, etc etc. My fun stuff includes a frisbee, a crazycreek chair, coffee (throw in a backpacking stove since you are without the kitchen). I would offer more, but I wanted to mention the essentials mainly. Oh, bring a camera! Happy travels Brian Cochran 84 westy WA Hi gang, We did it, we bought the '85 Vanagon (Multi/Kombi - whatever you call it when it pops up, sleeps 4 and has the table but no kitchen) Westy! It's visiting our mechanic now for a post-purchase what-needs-doing report (and the rear brakes did need doing so we're doing that now). As soon as we have it back, I'll take photos and make a web page so everyone can see our new baby :) I just went to Bus Depot and ordered both the Haynes and the Bentley books. What else do I need? I'm not asking anyone to guess what might need fixing on the van, I'm wondering what's basic and needed for any Vanagon. Many of you carry fire extinguishers, right? And some basic set of tools and parts for just-in-case? That's the type of list I'm looking for. Thanks a lot!! :) Liz _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com |
