There's a really cool little tool we use on whitewater rivers when a boat gets wrapped around a rock. It's called a Z-Drag and consists of a long rope(we tend to use the rope in our rescue throw bags, but any good climbing type rope should do. Add to that a couple of homemade 5-6mm prussick loops and a few caribeeners and you can have up to 6:1 mechanical advantage if you set up a triple Z-drag. Most whitewater guide books show the set up. I know the AWA folks had a nifty laminated card with the instructions and diagrams. CMI pulleys reduce the friction, but do add to the cost. Us river rats prefer stuffthat is lightweight and compact. Totingthat come a long in a kayak doesn't get it these days!!
Then again, finding a couple of the local high school defensive linemen to push it up there might work too, but then you loose the ability to learn the Z-drag.
