I drive my Camper with the AC on almost year round in Florida and find it more than adequate. I usually run the fan at "3" and the temperature set midrange. It takes careful aiming of the rear vents and sealing all of the fresh air openings on the dash and roof. A white roof and limo-tinted windows also keep the heat out of the van. Finding shady parking spots helps too. As for the power, it will still do 75-80 mph with the air on, which is faster than I normally travel.
