Subject: Golf II speedo fit Vanagon?
Comments: cc: subaruvanagon@yahoogroups.com

I know some members have fitted Golf II tachometers into Vanagon clusters. Has anyone tried to fit a Golf II speedometer?

I'd like to have a speedo whichworks to at least 200kmh/125mph.

This may be unnecessary...it's so long since I saw my (1984) vehicle, I cannot remember what the speedo reads to, but I seem to remember 180kmh being the last marking (I have a Bus Depot cluster downstairs, but it's packed away and not at all easily accessible).

I need to know because of the possibility of getting white faces done.

Were the Golf II instruments indirectly-lit (as in Vanagons), reflective (light inside instrument, reflecting around edge of opaque face) or backlit (light inside instrument, shining through translucent parts of face, as in most Japanese cars)?
