Subject: Clutch problem on 85 westy
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

Hi all,

Last weekend at the aborted telemark festival up at wildcat in NH. Sunday morning it 7 below zero when I started the van, the clutch pedal went to the floor. The clutch master cylinder is original with 266,000 miles on it, so I thought its time must be up. The clutch worked a little on my four hour ride home to Narragansett RI but not much. I ordered a discount master cylinder from Ron at Bus Depot, $39.95 thank you Ron. Now for the problem I just finished installing the master cylinder and still have an intermittent clutch some times it works some times it don't. When I first startup and drive away it seams to work but after not using it for a while it will not disengage when I press the pedal down. The slave cylinder was changed with the clutch at about 210,000 miles so its still relatively new, but could still be bad. I don't have a pressure bleeder so I did the old way with two people, thank you Ashley. So I wonder do I just change the slave cylinder, or is there other things I should try. The pedal does not feel soft or mushy, although it does engage very close to the floor. Anybody have any thoughts???? Thanks in advance Joe
