I am afraid I lost the low oil pressure war. After I installed a new high volume oil pump and Mahle filter, I still got the oil pressure alarm when warm above 2000 rpm. I installed a VDO gauge last weekend. Although I had not been driving the van after I started getting the alarms, it sounded like someone had a ball peen hammer beating inside when I started it up. The gauge, btw showed around 70 psi (I never let it warm up.)

I have decided to do an engine conversion. Only the Eurospec conversion, and the KEP Subaru conversion will pass the emissions inspectors up here in Alaska. I looked into the Golf 2.0L conversion, but Eurospec no longer markets their conversion. (The link probably needs to be updated) The CARB executive order (which is honored here in Alaska) is very specific in what is included in a legal conversion. I decided not to fight that war and ordered my KEP kit and a Subaru power plant today. I apologize to the purists out there.

Bottom line, I have an engine core if anyone is interested that is a good rebuild. No thrown rods or anything, and the heads are not leaking. I also have the ECU, power steering, etc. for anyone interested. Drop me a line.

John Cooper
