Subject: Re: replacing fuel injection hoses in engine compartment
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

renewing engine compartent fuel lines:

I have noticed that VW loved installing those lovely 1X use hose clamps.

And of course removing them is always fun. ( I've found that aviation snips work well)

If you do decide to do this yourself, make sure you use high pressure FI hose ( stronger than reg fuel hose ) it is more expensive but you must use it or risk fire.

I would also reccomend the hose clamps that are unobtrusive, ( meaning that they are not just a single band that tightens. VW has the good ones they have an inner sleeve that prevents pinching of the hose.

Save the heat sheathing that is on fuel lines now. This is that yellowish hose cover on the fuel lines. You can clean it up with some acetone or paint it black following a good cleaning for a nice look. ----one final note try to replace all of the fuel lines that are accessable beneath the van as well, a prudent measure that could save your a$$

And of course following this type of job be sure to recheck all connections and pressure up the system and check for leaks. Having a fire extinguisher handy is a good idea.

Gas fires are not easily extinguished with just water, in fact they just spread the fire in a lake of flames. (personal experience from a long time ago )

that's all folks.
