Subject: happenings with home engine repair: burnt oil smell at front seal
Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed

When I pulled my torque convertor plate today, upon loosening the bolts, I found each were soaked in black oil. A stench fill the garage and I began a pondering....

The front seal was replace for good measure. As mentioned previously, I had an oil leak in the vicinity. In fact, the leak was something of a PITA. It had coated everthing near the bell housing with a film of grime over time. And always there was a puddle of oil dripped from the bell-housing, to the front ehaust piped, and then to the ground....which sucks.

I thought it was motor oil, but on the first day when the engine was pulled and the axle separated out, I noticed the axle sid of the torque convertor was coated in grime, not the engine side. But first things first....

Removing the front seal from the engine was impossible without completely destroying it. I tapped the other one in carefully. Obviously, since i'm not a "shop" here, I didn't have the honkin' big socket, fitting the seal perfectly to drive it home....oh well. I put the O-ring on the T.C. plate and screwed it back together. I haven't torqued the bolts yet, since I'm still wondering about the burnt oil smell. Any thoughts anybody????

As for the other side.... transaxle...another thread.... Brian Cochran _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com
