{See, perfect cover -- nobody expects a fast get-away in a Vanagon. Almost as good as immunity from speeding tickets.} You remind me - it's not Friday but I must relate a bus story. When my Vanagon was new I wouldn't drive it to the BART station (I hate the system - don't ask) because VW radios seemed to be the choice of thieves at that time. (If they wanted a whole car Hondas and Toyotas were the choice, or so I thought). One day I drove my old 76 non-poptop camper. It wasn't anything to look at and I didn't think twice about leaving it at BART all day. I get back about 11:00pm that night and no bus. I call the BART cops, one of whom sarcastically asked if I was at the right station. In any event, apparently 4 inept thieves managed to hot wire my bus (the hard way - cut up the steering column) and attempted to live in/hide out in it for two weeks. They were caught by the CA Highway Patrol on a freeway not far from my house because they were attempting to drive my bus w/a broken steering column and further attempted to escape from the CHP when he turned the lights on them. Can you even imagine this? I didn't both getting the police report so all I knew is that they stopped my bus and attempted to run away (probably faster than driving my bus in that condition) and the cops sent dogs to track them. I've no idea what they did or why they were hiding.
