The seal should be flush with the front of the housing. Do not drive it home as it will then be to far back for the lip to ride on the converter hub. You must also carefully check the hub for wear and the condition of the bushing inside the torque converter. I've found that most converter leaks are caused by a grove on the hub and/or a worn bushing. This seal itself rarely goes bad. the bushing is easily replaced. A worn hub will require a rebuilt torque converter.

Hello everyone, After consulting the Bentley, I am still left in the dark about the final resting place of the torque convertor seal on the diff. I found it flush with the diff casing, about 3 mm or so from the back of the seal's groove. (yeah, I'm lacking in vocab here) Do I put the new one in like I found it (it was leaking--could have been the seal OR the LOCATION), or should I pound it "home" to the back of the groove. Bentley, of course, only explains with lame pictures and doesn't show the final resting place.
