OK, I had someone on the list present me with a question. He suggested that I should look into the Quantum/Dasher Auto trans, maybe the Audi 5000 would even be the same, to install into the Vanagon. How much different are these than the vanagon trans? I know that the engine mounts at 15 deg not 50 or 51, but how much different are the final drive ratios? Could the Vanagon auto unit be swaped on, I understand they have an extra clutch or two for strenght, but are just like the Golf/Jetta units. If the final drive ratios are not too far off, this might be something to look into even though I would have to raise my bed up and modify the engine cover. If anyone knows more about this, please let me know, it may be a lower cost option even though I would need to make my own mounts.
