Subject: Rusty Bus Depot Gas Tank- Sealer Needed?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

Last summer I put a BD gas tank in my '84 Bus. Last fall I started going through fuel filters like crazy. I figured it was a some of bad gas because I figured it could not be the tank. After one disaster of a trip to the Footmad music festival, including about 50 break downs and a ritual designed to recycle semi-clogged fuel filters, I decided I'd better drop the tank. Several months later I finally got around to it.

Sure enough, the tank has a thin layer of rust along the bottom. The sides are still the gray primer looking color that it was new.

Was I supposed to use a gas tank sealer/liner on this thing? Didn't see it in the instructions. The tank looked finished to me?

If not, is there some other explanation? Alcohol based gasoline? Bulley-recommended MMO?

Any suggestions on how to attack the rust and seal the tank? I think some one mentioned an acid earlier? Any experience with the various brands of tank liners?

Thanks, Das Kapitan- Captain Nemo 84 GL Sunroofer w/ Wolfy Sofabed Huntington, West "By Byrd" Virginia
