Subject:      Earthquake in Seattle-We're OK

Hello list, as most of you already know at 10:55 AM PST Western Washington
State had a 30 second long 7.0 earthquake.
I was finishing up an e-mail to listmember Dana Morphew about his Vanagon
conversion (sorry Dana can't make it today)! I stood up, looked out the
window-and then there was a bump so heavy that I didn't realize it was a
quake until the house rocked from north to south for a very long time, so
intense that I could not keep my balance and had to hold on to the window
sill.
A shelf of canned goods came down at the other end of the room, and I really
thought that the whole house would be destroyed, it was that violent.
Even after it stopped, the ground underneath felt like it was moving. I did
find some Vanagon parts on the floor of the ground (there's the awaited for
Vanagon content)!
Mom was in the other room and I shouted to her to get in the doorjamb.

While it was happening, all I could think about was what damage might be
occurring all around the area, especially downtown.
I ran over to check on our elderly neighbors, who were in a surpassingly
jovial mood.
Hope that all of you NW area listmember are OK.
