I do have a VDO oil temp sender that screws in as an exact replacement for the drain plug. To torque or remove, I did have to take a die grinder to a cheap socket and reduce the wall thickness of the socket. Perhaps a high quality Snap-On or other thin wall deep socket would not require this.
