Blake,

I just pulled the heads on my van, and used a hacksaw to cut through the hose in question. Yes, you'll need to pull the pump. It's fairly easy. You'll need to pull off the pulley (3 bolts) and use a 1/4" drive 13mm socket or a swivel 3.8" to get at the one bolt that's kind of behind the main pulley. The water pump and thermostat housing will come off as one piece. You'll probably want to replace the yellow o-ring that fits on the end of the crossover pipe which carries coolant to the starboard head. It's almost (but not quite) a dealer item, and most parts houses will try to give you the wrong one, or at least give you a really dumb look. It is a soft rubber and yellow (did I mention that?). It is 25mm in diameter. That usually helps the parts dudes.

Drop me a note if you have problems. Mine is on an engine stand, BTW.
