I originally mounted my 3 hole gauge set up up through the ash tray hole but
never was satisfied with the look. Last week I moved my trio(OP on left,
vaccum in middle and oil temp on right [in Celsius]) to the right side on
top of the removable dash cover cowling. I added a 1/4" piece of black ABS
plastic shaped to fit the 3 holer's bottom dimensions and fitted it to the
cowlingwith stainless steel machine screws after reaming out enough room for
the wiring and vaccum hose to lay down and pivot should I needto access the
top. There's enough slack to allow the whole unit to swing end for end and
get at the brake fluid/everything else under there.
I bought the 3 holer from Bus Boys and although I had a 2 holer from years
ago(also a VDO product) it cracked very easily from not having the stiffness
underneath it. I prevented that this time and used two #8 ss machine screws
and washers and nylox nuts on the back side and a couple more, one on each
side of the gauge. The OP gauge sits right over the warning lights and
although this looks lopsided to the anal rententive folk, I will eventuall
wire in the Haltech rich/lean indicator on the new FI system and still have
room forthe radar dectector on thereHope this helps.
