When I was in Germany I saw the whole "how to inspect (TuV), verify VIN, register, licence, licence plate, insure and how to waste a whole entire day of your life" procedure. The prices these guys are asking for licence plates seem a little high. In Germany, anyone can make a licence plate, it is the two stickers that make it a real licence plate. Outside of the registration building in Berlin there is about 5 or 6 vendors that make licence plates in about 5 minutes or less - anything you want! I got a pair of "WOB DM 1972" (Wolfsburg, Initials, Birthdate) made up for 50 DM - this works about to approximately $25 USD or so - this is on the new style plate with the blue D and European star on the left side. If people are interested in getting some plates let me know. Perhaps I can arrange a group purchase and get the price down for everyone.
