Subject: Help!! Bad signs at start-up....
Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed
Well, hopefully things aren't that bad, but I am worried! Tonight I started
it up, with the front end raised up. We bled the coolant system
immediately. I seeming had just enough coolant/H2o on hand. The valves
were rattling a little, but that was expected. THe engine seemed loud, but
I'm sure I have t o tighten down a couple junctions on it and the loudness
could have been from not hearing it run for so long (my imagination) After
the flush finished, it seemed not to take very long, Sarah and I took a
"ride of about 1/4 mile down the street and back; out of a parking lot and
over some speed bumps and back again. upon coming back into the parking lot,
about 4-5 minutes, the oil pressure was visibly dropping fast. I think it
was in the 20ies when I turned it off....could have been the 30ies.
Usually the oil pressure doesn't drop out of the 60ies until I have been in
the van, on the road, for 10-15 minutes and have covered some real distance.
This is very disconcerning. But maybe it's the lighter oil....
The oil coolant sensor is leaking like no tomorrow for some reason. I
didn't replace the o-ring, but I did slap a bunch of permatex sealant on the
old o-ring., Upon tighening it, there was a "snap" and she's leaking
away.....BAD LUCK>.> very irritating. I'm not sure if there is any other
area of leakage, since it is so easy to tune into the major prob areas.....
My plan at this time is to fix the leak with a proper O-ring, more sealant.
I don't know what I broke, or if I broke, but I might bee purchasing the
sensor or a tank. BIG PITA.
THe engine is another creature. I'm going to adjust the valves, change the
oil (although I didn't do it while it was warm tonight. should I warm it
again?)
Does everything sound ok? AM I screwed?
Also, just for kicks, the AT is very sluggish, but I'm guessing it's because
the torque convertor lost much of it's fluid and it was still filling by the
end of the drive. I was backing the van into the garage and I really had to
give it some really gas before the axles would turn.
Help me please.... Bob I'll call you tomorrow if I don't get called in to
work.
Thanks
