Chuck, Here is the reference I was refering to:
Oxygen Sensor Wiring- High resistance or a short in the wire for the oxygen sensor (the green wire that would be disconnected during a C.O. adjustment) that runs inside the fuel injection harness. Symptoms ar missing and cutting out with thick black smoke coming form the tailpipe. The green wire is replaceable without replacing the complete harness, part #443 971 108A
Mark, Is the VW fix specific to the 2.1L/Digifant or the 1.9L/Digijet? If it works for us poor souls with the Digijet one-wire sensors, it could make a bunch of us retty happy. The O2 sensor doesn't control the ECU, engine, or the AFM. The O2 sensor harness, has been written up in the technical bulletins as a failing on some vehicles. There is a VW kit, to replace the O2 sensor lead from the engine compartment to the ECU connector. Engine's which run oddly when a known good O2 sensor is installed, should be examined for the wiring harness fault. You can measure continuity from the harness connect to the engine compartment connector to verify this. >> |
