DON'T mount them in your center console. What use are they where you can't see them? You might even crash when trying to read them. If you're good with fiberglass etc you could enlarge your instrument binnacle to include them, or make a pod to fit them on one side or other of your existing pod.

I will be looking at dash modifications eventually myself, though I'm no expert with laying neat fiberglass (I AM expert at laying IRREGULAR fiberglass...).

Like a stereo, the closer to the driver's normal driving line-of-sight, the better.
