Since I started this thread let me clarify some points. To Farmers Insurance's credit, if the vehicle was a Range Rover instead of a 20 year old Westy, to make a proper repair would require replacing the entire panel justifying their $1750 estimate. I would have been happy with the $856 pound-it-out repair settlement and even showed the adjuster their bid when he was giving me the $1750 borderline total out spiel. He was non-plussed and simply handed it back to me as if to say "If Farmers' computer collision repair estimate says you get $1750 then that's what you get and not a penny more." I know in the Great Universal Scheme of Insurance Things that if one poor sucker seems to make out on one claim a hundred others will pay the difference and then some. I've taken the moral highroad more than once and unless you're careful the thin air up there will fill you with a false sense of righteous indignation and pride and cost you $$, military promotions, career advancement, mariages, friends, ...all in the name of Truth,Justice, and The American Way. Now take the IRS (a Delaware Corporation),or HMOs...but it's not Friday.
