From your discription the push rod tubes are the originals. The expandable ones don't have the accordion ridges. They look like a antenna with 2 sections with a spring inside. You wan new seals for sure and possibly new tubes. Are they rusted badly? If not you maybe able to stretch what you have to tighten them up however they are reasonably priced.

> Hey all, I'm about to put the head back on my 1.9 and was wondering about the pushrod tubes. Mine have "accordion" style ridges on each end of the tubes that look like they have been compressed together tightly. Is this a collapsible tube or original style? Can someone describe the visual > differences between the two styles of pushrods? If it's the collapsible style, can I reuse them? I'm pretty sure they are the stock style, but I want to make sure I don't screw this up by re-using pushrods that are a one shot deal. > > Incidentally, I took my head off today and trotted it down to Action Machine on 176th and Aurora in Seattle and "Russ" fixed my "busted easy-out (evil-out), broken stud, mangled heli-coil job" for 20$! He has this very cool machine that burns thru anything with remarkable precision. To their credit though, they are a good shop when it comes to VW work. I just don't think machine work is their specialty. > > Thanks once again, > Mark... >
