David, I wonder how may newbie vanagon owners have had the water pump be their first trial of passage. I sure was mine. First time a water pump ever just stopped me cold (or perhaps hot) with no warning. But the replacement parts are relatively inexpensive and the actual replacement is doable, though not to be confused with fun.

The real benefit that will come of this effort is that, if you have already found it, you will now know about "Tom's VW Page" at http://volksweb.relitech.com and more specifically the article on water pumps, http://volksweb.relitech.com/19wpump.htm. This is a remarkable resource, Tom seem to stay one or two repairs ahead of me. Thank you Tom.

Good luck with your pump, FWIW, BusDepot replacement water pumps seem to be very satisfactory and typically about 60-70 percent of the cost of one from your FLAPS.

Jim
