Subject: home engine repair: it runs!!
Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed

Well, I finally put the last of the parts on today. The only leftovers were exhaust bolts....I replaced all of them. (I point this out ‘cos it ain’t good when you have parts leftover!)

So, even thought the coolant system only had about 1.3 gals in it, I decided to “turn the key and see what happens”. So I did, and wow! I barely touched the starter and she fired right up! I figured all of those fuel hoses would have to prime, or at least some delay in starting, but it starts “right now”. I did it a few more times since it was so much fun. I didn’t idle the engine ever more than a second or two each time.....I want to immediately be flushing the cooling system before anything else. I do have a couple spot leaks from this : under the water pump--coolant WHICH I hope disappears somehow upon really running the engine, and so oil or ATF up farther. I am praying that it “goes away” or is an easy fix. I’m under some idea of hope that when the engine warms up, the gaskets really “set-up”. Somehow, I’m probably wrong.

Anyway, it runs! More final thoughts, figures, parts for sale, opinions, etc later. Plus the old rods and bearings are on their way to boston bob for anaylsis. I’m itching to know that story.
