When I first bought my 86 it had identical "symptoms". When driving in the rain it was OK until I stopped. Then it would not come off idle.

I lightly sprayed the inside on the distributor cap with WD40 and then lightly sprayed every connection I could see.

That was several years and many parts ago, but it did solve the problem.
