By far your longest lasting alternative is my Stainless Steel system (if you have an '86-91 non-syncro; pre-85 and syncro-specific pipes are not yet available stainless). It should far outlast both the stock system and the S&S system. The S&S system claims performance advantages due to its header configuration. This is true, although the real-world improvement is by no means substantial.
