I use my foot too.  However, when I'm filling it with oil, I set a full
quart on it.

Ok, how about some techniques on how to hold the liscense plate down and
check the oil and hold the rag at the same time?
I'll go first
1) my foot- i step on it on the bumper
2) or- the oil cap fits well as a means to jam it open if you put it on
it's side with long axis perpendicular to the ground and short axis perp
to the liscense plate.

Or just take the spring out of the liscnese plate i suppose.
