Listees, This week marks the 10 year anniversary of my Vanagon, a 1991 Carat. I bought it new in March 1991 at the VW dealer in Marietta Georgia (Cumberland VW). I paid $15,900 for it and felt that I got a pretty good deal. Ten years and 186,000 miles later, we are both going strong. It is my daily driver, I put about 500 miles a week on it. In 1991 I had no idea that there would be an internet or a Vanagon list. I had no idea that I was purchasing a hobby. I just bought the van because it was the last of the rear engined VW's and I wanted the last Vanagon to carry forward. Although it has had a few problems (head leaks the worst), I would not exchange the last ten years of driving fun and satisfaction for anything. There is no other vehicle that I would trade this Vanagon for; no other vehicle that combines driving enjoyment and practicallity. I know that most of you feel the same way. Keep the Vanagon faith.
