Hello Vanagon Friends, I used to participate in this group a lot. I will put my Friday silliness up against anybody's. Time constraints caused me to drop out, but now I have a some questions I would like to ask. Please answer directly by email since I am not currently subscribed. Bitte, diese Frage is besonders fuer die Deutcher in dieser Gruppe. My wife and I would like to spend a year or so in Europe, touring around. We would like to set up a "home base" in Germany, a small apartment, somewhere we can return to when we are weary of traveling. I would like to find a place where rent is low. That is Question Number 1: where should I look for moderate rents? Is there any difference between eastern Germany and western Germany? I want to buy a used VW camper and then resell it when I leave. I need advice on whether this is a good idea. Are there warnings I should heed? Also, I really need help figuring out about licensing and insuring. Any pointers would be appreciated. Our base country of choice is Germany, but it doesn't have to be, if things like registration and insurance of the vehicle are significantly easier in some other country. Any comments on that? Question Number 5: When I buy a camper and register and insure it, will I have to have an address? The reason I ask this one, it seems that the logical way to proceed would be to first find a camper (meanwhile staying in hostel, etc.) and then use it to look for a place to call home. That would give me freedom to look around a wider area. Also I would much prefer to find some out-of-the-way, rural, non-tourist place. Direct email replies greatly appreciated. Advice, warnings, suggestions taken to heart. Danke sehr, Will Self email wself@pillar.msu-b.edu or wself@msubillings.edu |
