A few questions re: 82' Westy

First, is there any way to recondition beat-up heat exchangers? It appears that they can be separated @ the seam. Mine are a little beat-up on the sheetmetal but nothing that cannot be patched/straightened. They seem, however, to be filled with mud/etc.....

Second, i am currently in the very-long drawn out process of replacing my engine (and damn-near everything else) and I noticed that, on top of missing nearly every other part, the timing scale is missing and there does not appear to be any marks on the cooling fan to indicate TDC. I bought a replacement scale, now i need to mark the cooling fan. Is there an easier way than finding TDC on the motor and marking the fan? there are some marks on the outer ring of the fan, but cannot determine if they are just dings/dents etc... Any advice would be appreciated on easier methods. Thanks Mike Edwards 82 Westfalia "Snuffaluphabus"
