Not much faster at all. They have a bit more torque so go up hills a bit better, but don't expect a big difference in power compared to a 1600cc type 1 engined van. Oh, and by the way, they use more petrol (gas) than the type 1. You need to go to a 2.0l to get significantly more torque/power. ----- Original Message ----- From: Adam Taylor To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Sent: Monday, March 12, 2001 00:56 Subject: How fast (less slow) is a 72 camper?

I used to drive a '69 Camper. Slowly.

Now I see a 72 (1700 w/ dual carbs) for sale. How much more powerful are those motors? What is a reasonable cruising speed?

Any other comments on possible purchase welcomed. Adam.Taylor@orst.edu
