Matthew;

I can say absolutely, with out doubt, maybe. When I tried unplugging my O2 sensor the other morning my '85 did something like that. Before I did the O2 experiment I had noticed that the RPMs would surge when I was coasting to a stop -- take my foot off the pedal and the RPMs drop to about 1K then jump up to about 1500 before droping back down. I believe both of these events can be attributed to an improperly adjusted throttle switch -- I brain-farted and set it at .02" instead of .002". I reset to .002" and haven't had a repeat (also plugged the O2 back in). I am getting somewhat intermittent throttle switch activity though -- it doesn't always kick in when I take my foot off the pedal (I can 'slap' the pedal real quick and get it going). When I have time I'm going to give the whole throttle body a Gumout bath. If that doesn't work I'll set it to max gap -- .004"/.1mm -- because I may be dealing with a worn switch. If that doesn't do the trick I'll break down and instal! l the new switch I've been putti ng off for a year.

<< Chuck, i gotta quick question about the throttle switch and stuff. I've check mine to make sure they are turning off and on athe right time (wide open and just as you touch the throttle cable) but would a bad switch cause surging? Here is the deal, if i step on teh gas and bring the rpms to 2000, after a minute it heads to 3000 and then back to 2000 after 15 seconds. Any ideas? thanks matthew 84
