Your switch is dead...

You should have relays in at least the high beam if you are running more than 200W combined high beam.

Good news is Audi Fox, 1974-1980 Rabbit / Scirocco / Jetta / Cabriolet all have the same switch.

A couple months ago I had the light switch go bad on my 87 vanagon. Well today the lights went out again.

They work if I hold the blinker switch up but the entire light bar comes on and blinds the oncoming driver. Plus it's just damn hard to drive and shift gears that way.

I have checked the fuses high and low. I have checked the connections at the switch and the headlights themselves. I have read the Bentley and still cannot find the solution to my problem.

What else could it be gurus? Is there a relay I am missing? I am at a loss.

Thanks in advance.
