I have installed the VW factory auxiliary light brackets that David Marshall has for sale on both my 84 Westy and my sister's 81 Westy. They provide a very secure and hidden mount which uses preexisting holes in the bodywork under the bumper - no drilling holes in the bumper. I give these mounts my highest recommendation. Very trick. I have some photos I could pass along if anyone is interested.

Cost is $25 >USD per pair.
