a "Kombi" is a base line NON-GL passenger vanagon. the US versions (albeit rare) said "vanagon" on the back. thats it. no "L" or "GL". The cdn/euro versions said "transporter" or "bus" on the back. very few vanagon kombis were sold in the US - the few that made it in were usually early aircooled models, tho i do know someone with a '85 kombi local, which was special ordered with a brown cord. weekender interior..(wierd van, has no armrests on front seats, no power steering, no tach, but a weekender interior...wierd.) these vans had no frills at all. most had vinyl seats, and rubber floor mats, no cloth or carpet. no tach. usually no power steering. in other words - a PANEL VAN WITH WINDOWS AND SEATS.
