Subject: Springs have Sprung
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"; format=flowed

The days are getting above freezing in Wisconsin, that means its time to work on the Westy out in the unheated garage. Front end issue first, calipers, brake lines, shocks, steering rack etc.... Its also time to look for some replacement springs in the rear.

Currently the van fits into the garage (barely) since the rear springs have sagged a lot. I would appreciate hearing the lists wisdom on available options that would either restore it to original height or some that may lower it a little. Other than OEM springs I am not aware of replacements that are designed to give original height. I have seen two sources of "lowering" springs, H&R and Boge. Based on Archive info it sounds like H&R are a little stiffer and the lower few wraps of the coils are actually tight and there may be some bottoming issues. I have not been able to tell if the Boge have the same issues.

Does anyone else have any other sources? Options? How about shocks, it these lowering springs are used do you have to use different shocks or modify the mounts? Any first hand experience on any of these springs, both good and bad is appreciated, either P-mail or list mail.

Thanks in advance

X-82 Diesel Westy now 1.8L
