Does anyone have experience with rebuilt automatic transaxles in their Vanagon? I have a '91 with 205K miles. I've just ordered an SA engine kit from TII Trading Co, which will replace the current leaking wasserboxer. I'm wondering if I should go ahead and have the transmission rebuilt while it's accessible. It shifts great now, and has recently been serviced, but how many miles can one expect to get from these automatics? Also who is a reputable rebuilder? BTW, this is my first automatic I've ever owned, and I must say that I'm quite impressed with the Vanagon automatic transmission. I don't think I could do much better shifting manually! Not to mention how it has given 205K miles of trouble free service. Thanks, Bill Knight Raleigh, NC 84 Wolfsburg Westy 91 Vanagon Carat |
