Surviving un-injured is all about bumpers meeting at the same hight IMO. The vanagon has a great impact absorbing bumper+frame design But what happens when a vanagon crashes head-on with a GMC Suburban with a higher bumper? I think it could mean getting used to a wheelchair for life.

That crash test footage between a vanagon and a volvo would make me choose the vanagon. I think the vanagon bumper is about a foot taller than the volvos.
