Well, worked all Sunday on Sammy, Put the berg short shift kit on. I love what it does for me, I recommend this upgrade to anyone. It took only 1.5 hrs. (would have been less but they had bolts instead of studs on shifter plate, had to run down to the very busy FLAPS). Then we tried to de-mouse smell the heater vents. We used high pressure blower and shop vac. I think we got most of it, we will see later. I then proceeded to put on my hard start relay kit. Nobody ever told me the starter was on TOP of the transmission!!!! The Bentley manual was no help in that it hardly mentions the starter on a 1.6L diesel at all!!! After much work and pain (Translate skinned knuckles) we got it! Mounted solar battery charger. No problem. Test drove sammy. Now we again have a screeching bearing noise in the motor area. Retighten the belt from alternator to water pump(just replaced the alternator 3 months ago). That did not help, when I get the revs up or the motor is warm it stops, water pump??? No water leaks, but must be the water pump. Best place to get one? Moving on, my speedometer works but odometer does not, anyone have a used one for an 82' diesel. I am not sure that I want to take it apart until I have a spare. I checked the boots on the CV joints while I was under the van, they look ok. What else should I check at this point? Also the fiberglass top of my westy is very dirty, what should we clean it with? Should we polish it? if so with what? Next projects are fix stove burner, put in new radio( from list members 91 carvat) fix/ replace speedometer. Gotta love VW's always things to do! I guess that is why it is my project car :-))))
