yes, there is no return spring.

yes, perhaps the TOB just rides on the pressure palate all the time but
it deffenitely is not a problem.

their hydraulic clutch is one of the best in all cardom
-there is never any adjusting,
just bleed out the old fluid once a year or every two max.

clutch slave cyls last maybe 6 years,
clutch master longer, even twice as long,
but your 83 should have had two slaves by now,
and one new clutch master cyl.

the clutch in diesel vanagons and waterboxers
are excellent, excellent clutches,
lasting basically indefenitely,
like it doesn't often fail, it just gets very old,
- defenitely much stonger than all air-cooled clutches.

hope you lubed the bushings and pivot point for the cross shaft very
nciely.
have seen them get noisy and creaky with about 150 K on the clutch.
pilot bearings are a little weak.
there is a felt seal to keep dust out of the pilot bearing, but it seems
to me that it is not a very recognized part
- like some suppliers who sell clutches don't know about it, but a felt
seal should be in there.
