When I kept my old bugs and busses on the road for minimum bux and too much time spent behind the wrench, I would resurface the flywheel with emery cloth.

Fast-forward to the '00s, Wasserleaker, Scirrocco and Golf. Miytazwell dooit right, I look forward to letting the pedal out on that fresh, flat flywheel surface...
