As was previously stated...start saving for a rebuild...the whine typically comes from one of the common bearings that is starting to fail...When the mainshaft bearings go, they make noise when in neutral with the clutch out...Pinion bearings make noise (typically) on acceleration or light load...when they get more than just a little bad, they start to wear the ring/pinion 'cause of the extra play...Don't let it go that far..If you have to wait for "funding"...at least change the gear oil to get some of the crap out of the system...$995 exchange is the current price for a rebuild with a 3 yr warranty...Good Luck & holler with any questions.
