Subject: Running Trouble

Hello All, Last week I asked about an emision problem I have, but now I have a worse problem. I will do my best to discribe my problem and what I have done so far. The van is an 85 with the stock 1.9L gas waterboxer, trans is auto, miles are 175K. What is happening is that it runs very rough off and on at idle. It continues as you try to accelerate. Sometimes it will smooth out and run great, other times you will fight it for several miles. It feels like I am loosing a cylinder. It smells rich and vibrates like a dead cylinder, but then it will smooth out and run great again. The problem is most common when its warm(engine temp). The temp gauge rises normally and never goes past the middle. I replaced the cap and rotor with good brass ones and installed a new air filter(old was real bad). I pulled and checked the plug wires with an DVOM and all were good, plugs all looked good. I tried unpluging the O2 sensor and it did not change. No lights are coming on on the dash, all looks normal. I have sprayed the engine vacuum lines with WD40 and found no leaks. This has happened with 3 different tanks of gas from 2 states and 3 stations. First 2 tanks were burned to almost empty. It feels like a miss, but I have found no ignition defects. Were should I start looking? I am stumped. I do have a small exhaust leak, but it ran great before with an even bigger leak(I welded 99% of the leak closed). Please help. I do not have a Bentley for the van yet, I will be getting one soon, but am on limited funds right now. I am in Tacoma Wa if anyone has one to loan.
