Hi all , Chris - back finally after a long absence from the list. Nice to see some of the older list members still present.

Correct me if I'm wrong - but I thought I read somewhere on a listmember's website that VW manufactured a revised version of the 3/4 syncro gear to with-stand greater stress...

I'm in the same boat as a couple of you...I've got a leaky auto tranny in my 85 GL Westy, which also is getting wonky in the shift from 2nd into 3rd. Expert advice here is to replace it, which is a $1500 CDN proposition for a rebuilt one.

and then in a year or so youll be back in the same boat when your manual tranny develops a crack in the 3/4 gear slider hub (as they all do, sooner or later). the auto trannys are more relaiable than the vanual trannys on the wbx vanagons.. chris
