The tranny in my 85 GL was very quiet. I had it rebuilt, it was still quiet.

My 88 GL however is another matter. It Whines or "Sings" loudly. I had the tranny torn down for other reasons and had it inspected carefully. There was the slightest mis-alignment of the ring and pinion and it had worn just a bit out of position. At 90,000 miles the wear pattern was set, and short of changeing it out, my choice was to live with the noise. I did the latter.

If I upgrade to an new gearing, say with Weddles parts or put in a 5th forward gear then I will be rid of the noise.
