     Filtering is irrelevant.  Gerry (the listserver) shouldn't be
passing spam at all, but for reasons discussed at some length, Gerry is
set to accept messages from any source, subscriber or not.

     Viable alternatives to this have been offered by a few people on the
list, myself included, but our suggestions fell on deaf, or uninterested,
ears.
